Sustainability

Great efforts have been made to protect the local landscape, so it can be enjoyed for years to come.

30 per cent of Woodlea is green open space, ensuring a combination of high-quality, contemporary homes, modern convenience and genuine natural beauty.

Build on sustainable foundations

Build on sustainable foundations

Wild grasses, seasonal wetlands, river red gums and local wildlife are all part of the Woodlea story. Great efforts have been made to nurture and protect the landscape, especially the Deanside Wetlands and Kororoit Creek corridor, so it can be explored and enjoyed for generations to come.

Protecting & connecting

In consultation with Melbourne Water the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) we have built the very first purpose built wetland habitat in the state! As part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to protect and connect populations of the Growling Grass Frog we’re excited to deliver on a project that will rehabilitate an endangered species.

An exemplary EnviroDevelopment accredited community

Residents at Woodlea can feel confident their community minimally impacts the environment. The Woodlea approach also encourages a safe, healthy and active lifestyle, resulting in reduced household energy and water costs.

EnviroDevelopment projects meet stringent standards set by expert ecologists, town planners, engineers, architects, lawyers, economists and developers.

Woodlea is the largest masterplanned community in Australia to achieve all six EnviroDevelopment accreditation ‘leaves’. This demonstrates high-level performance in the areas of ecosystems, water, energy, waste, materials and community.

The UDIA EnviroDevelopment certification program encourages developers to achieve best practice in sustainability initiatives, to raise the bar at least 20 per cent above national minimum standards.

A commitment to environmental preservation is evident in sensitive landscaping design, to rehabilitate habitat areas around the Kororoit Creek corridor, Deanside Wetlands and protected river red gum forest. Woodlea is ahead of its rehabilitation and conservation program with more than 8,000 trees already planted.

Approximately 30 per cent of the site has been earmarked for public open space, incorporating an extensive network of walking and cycling paths. Recycled water will be used to keep the suburb green while minimising demand on water from an estimated 20,000 residents.
