Active Open Space Precinct nears completion

Our Active Open Space Precinct is nearing completion. Located north of Taylors Road in Aintree, Victoria, the 10-hectare open space is set to open in early 2025. Upon completion, the precinct will feature a state-of-the-art sports pavilion, two expansive soccer fields, a dynamic skate park, an inclusive all-abilities playground, BBQ facilities, and a spacious dog park.

Construction is well underway, with significant milestones already achieved. The carpark, soccer fields, and skatepark works are now complete, and works on the sports pavilion are nearing completion.

Mayor of Melton City Council, Cr Kathy Majdlik, alongside Luba Grigorovitch MP, Member for Kororoit, recently toured the site to witness its progress.

‘The Active  Open Space precinct is a transformative project for our community. It not only provides exceptional facilities for sports and outdoor activities, but also fosters a sense of community and wellbeing. I am thrilled to see its progress and look forward to its completion.’ – Mayor Kathy Majdlik

‘We’re pleased to see the progress on this exciting new space, which will benefit not only residents in the Woodlea community, but also those in the surrounding suburbs. This exceptional precinct represents an important step towards creating more inclusive, active, and vibrant community spaces in the West.’ Luba Grigorovitch MP

Future Plans

In future years, the precinct will also be home to the Aintree Indoor Sports Facility, with Woodlea recently selling the parcel of land that will house the site to Melton City Council. The future centre is expected to incorporate a range of indoor sports, exercise and community facilities that will benefit people of all ages and abilities. Council is currently developing an Indoor Sport Strategy which will help inform the requirements and timeframes of the future centre.

Woodlea Project Director Matthew Dean said the new Active Open Space precinct represents Woodlea’s ongoing commitment to creating a healthy, active, and inclusive community.

“With facilities that cater to everyone, from sports enthusiasts to families and pet owners— we’re setting a new standard for community living in the West, with a mission to become Australia’s Healthiest Community. This space will be a hub for connection, activity, and wellbeing, reinforcing Woodlea as a premier destination for active, family-oriented lifestyles,” said Matthew.
