Purpose Designed to celebrate and enhance the ecology and biodiversity of Kororoit Creek, the day allowed local residents the opportunity to actively contribute to their local waterways and greenscapes. In aiming to encourage the community to adopt the beautiful Kororoit Creek, the native tree and grasses planted will provide habitat and sanctuary for local fauna for generations to come.
Outcome Through the extraordinary teamwork and effort by all, approximately 5000 native plants were installed, all of which were germinated from local seed stock sourced within 10km of Woodlea. The plants included mainly grassland species which will provide a habitat for native frogs and lizards, as well as some trees and shrubs for bird habitats.
What’s next? The sites selected on this day were just one of many community planting days to be activated along Kororoit Creek. We look forward to hosting more tree planting days and repurposing tree stakes and corflutes in the future.
