Building Stronger Local Connections The first Woodlea Learning Community meeting was held this week, marking the beginning of a new network for education leaders across Woodlea. The Learning Community brings together school and education leaders, alongside relevant local partners and services, around a shared commitment to supporting children and young people. It creates a trusted space to connect, exchange ideas and work together on the opportunities and challenges shaping the growing community. The inaugural meeting included John Mitsinikos, Principal of Yarrabing Secondary College; Tami-Jo Richter, Principal of Aintree North Primary School [interim name]; Simon Cornock, Principal of Aintree Primary School; and Woodlea Community Development Manager, Pauline Turner. As the network develops, it will strengthen connections between education leaders, local organisations and the wider Woodlea community — creating more opportunities for joined-up support for children, young people and families.
Turning Shared Priorities Into Action The first meeting provided an opportunity to explore the purpose of the network, consider what success could look like and identify where collective action could make the greatest difference. Two clear priorities emerged from the conversation. The first was how, together, we can make Woodlea a place where schools can attract and retain great teachers and staff as the community grows. The second was how education leaders can build a stronger shared voice for the services, support and opportunities children and young people need to thrive. These priorities reflect a shared commitment not only to responding to current needs, but also to preparing for the future. By bringing local insight and experience together, the Learning Community can help identify emerging gaps, recognise opportunities early and build a stronger case for the investment, infrastructure and support Woodlea’s children and young people will need as the community grows.
Creating A Purposeful Local Network Building on these early priorities, the Woodlea Learning Community will come together each term to continue the conversation, share insights and turn shared understanding into coordinated action. The network will provide a dedicated space for education leaders to learn from one another, share knowledge, resources and contacts, and consider how local schools, services and partners can work more effectively together. It will also strengthen the community’s ability to plan ahead, coordinate investment and advocate with a more informed and connected voice. The Learning Community is designed specifically for education leaders. It will form an important part of a growing community network across Woodlea, alongside opportunities for community members to contribute through Community Builders. Through Community Builders, residents can share ideas, build local connections and help shape conversations about Woodlea’s future. Together, these connected opportunities can support a stronger, more responsive Woodlea — one where children, young people and families have the support, opportunities and sense of belonging they need to thrive.
