In only its fourth year, the club has achieved a history-making milestone that has united both Aintree and the Woodlea community in pride. The young team, with most players aged 11 to 14, coached by former Brazilian footballer and FIFA World Cup Champion Carlos Luciano (Mineiro) alongside Alejandra Lopez, displayed exceptional skill, grit, and sportsmanship throughout the season. With the same drive and heart as the Matildas, these young athletes are proving that big dreams can start on local fields, right here in Woodlea.
The team first claimed victory as North West U15D League Champions, before going on to conquer the Football Victoria Community 2025 Girls 15D Metropolitan Championship– defeating the state’s best community teams in a thrilling 2–1 grand final. As a new club, being only four seasons in, it is a monumental moment for the Aintree community.
For the Aintree community, this win represents the growing strength of local sport and our commitment to creating opportunities for young girls in the Woodlea community to support future champions. “Our club is like a big family. Our coaches help us with everything, not just soccer. One day I want to play NPL, make the state team, and even go all the way to the World Cup…I just love this sport and I’m so thankful for everyone at the club who helps us chase our dreams.” – Key Player Wesal B.
Who knows…maybe the next Matilda is already training right here on our home turf. With clubs like the success of Aintree Soccer Club- a not-for-profit initiative run by Coach Mineiro that continues to foster growth, inclusion, and talent development in the region- and community spirit cheering them on every step of the way, the future of girls’ sport in our region has never looked brighter.
