Woodlea finalises land sale to Melton City Council for new Aintree Indoor Sports Facility

Sporting enthusiasts in Melbourne’s West, get excited! A new sports centre is coming to your neighbourhood. Woodlea has sold a block of land to Melton council which will be home to the future Aintree Indoor Sports Facility.  This marks a major milestone that will benefit the surrounding community for many years to come.

Aintree Indoor Sports Centre

Set to be located adjacent to Dharra Specialist School and Yarrabing Secondary College, the sports venue will be located close to the Active Open Space precinct and future major town centre.

The future complex will include a variety of indoor sports, fitness and community amenities that will benefit people of all ages and abilities.

Strategic land sale paves the way

Woodlea made the strategic agreement to sell the land early, enabling significant cost savings for the Council, which will be reinvested in the sports facility and other community projects.

For the next two to three years, Woodlea will continue to use parts of the site to enable surrounding development works to be completed. They will then vacate the remainder of the site, allowing the council to take full control for planning and development of the facility.

Council is also developing an Indoor Sport Strategy which will help inform the requirements and timeframes of the future facility.

Australia’s Healthiest Community

“This future indoor sports facility is another step towards Woodlea’s goal of becoming Australia’s Healthiest Community. It adds to a wealth of exciting active open space and fitness amenities currently being delivered in the Woodlea community including two new soccer fields, a skate park, a dog park, and state-of-the-art playground equipment.”

– Woodlea Project Director Matthew Dean

“The early purchase of this land was a strategic decision by Council to secure the right location for an indoor sports facility in Aintree. As one of the fastest growing communities in Australia, Melton City Council is committed to providing the services and facilities our residents need to thrive. This is an important step forward in our planning for the future sports facility as we focus on our vision for a healthier, more active and connected community.”

– City of Melton Mayor, Cr Kathy Majdlik
