Explore the unique ruins of the historic Rockbank Inn

Yielding insight into Victoria’s gold rush history, we’re proud to be carrying out significant works to preserve our communities heritage, which features the historic ruins of the heritage-listed Rockbank Inn.

Overseen by Heritage Victoria, an archaeological dig will commence in April 2020 and is expected to uncover thousands of artefacts dating from as early as the 1840s and is one of few gold rush hotel sites ever excavated.

Join us for a special weekend of discovery, interactive learning and immersive tours to the historic site!

To celebrate this unique project, we’re inviting the community to join us to explore key artefacts that will be showcased in a pop-up museum, and be guided by experts running discovery tours to the Rockbank Inn over a special opening weekend on Saturday 1st May.

This event is brought to you by Melton City Council + Woodlea and will be part of The Australian Heritage Festival (Victoria) – an annual celebration of all things history, specifically uncovering the heritage in the City of Melton.

A pop-up museum is coming to Woodlea

Partnering with Melton City Council & Extent Heritage, we are delighted to be launching a pop up museum at Woodlea!

The museum will feature key artefacts uncovered during the archaeological dig of the Rockbank Inn, and be accessible for the community to visit.

The pop-up museum will be on site for the community to explore and interact with from 1st May – 16th May. The pop up museum will be self guided on week days, with staff on site both weekends for the duration.
