Australia Day long weekender

Australians all let us rejoice!

It’s our official national celebration this Sunday, January 26. Australia Day is a day for all Australians, no matter where our personal stories began. It’s a day to celebrate our love for the country we call home, our shared optimism for the future and to acknowledge our history.

With an incredibly diverse community calling Woodlea home, Australia Day is a chance for us to come together and celebrate. A long weekend with the public holiday falling on Monday, January 27 — there will be lots of fun-filled activities, things to do and places to go — find out how you can be a part of the fun.

Melton City Council

The Willows Historical Park will be home to the City of Melton’s annual Australia Day celebrations featuring live entertainment from 9:30am-12pm. The event will commence with a formal flag raising ceremony followed by a Welcome to Country. Council then proudly recognises winners of the 2020 Community Achievement Awards and concludes with a citizenship ceremony.

The morning of activities includes live entertainment, dingoes, reptiles and face painting as well as kids’ activities by Bunnings and Melton Men’s Shed. In true Aussie fashion enjoy a free barbecue, ANZAC biscuits and lamingtons.

Eynesbury Market

Only a 15-minute drive from Aintree, the Eynesbury Market runs every fourth Sunday of the month, falling on Australia Day this year. Visit for a great Sunday out and explore a great variety of fresh produce, craft and artisan stalls.

From 9am-2pm, grab a bite to eat from delicious food trucks or soak up the vibrant atmosphere with live music and family-friendly activities.

Australia Day Celebrations

Venture into Melbourne’s CBD and Docklands where there will be something for everyone at Victoria’s official Australia Day events. Get together at the Official Flag Raising Ceremony and Parade, RACV Australia Day Festival at Kings Domain Gardens or Australia Day at Docklands.

Spectators will be treated to a vibrant public display of our diverse community in various locations commencing from 11am at Melbourne Town Hall and finishing up at Docklands with roaming artists, entertainment and food trucks to keep the family entertained until 9:30pm.

With road closures in place around the CBD and Docklands, the best way to get around is by public transport.
