Woodlea Primary School a winner in this year’s State Budget

Woodlea is considered a winner in the recent state budget, with the proposed Rockbank North Primary School being announced as one of the 17 new schools across the state to be allocated more than $670 million in funding.

Treasurer Tim Pallas handed down his fifth state budget a few weeks ago, with the 2019/20 budget paper outlining funding for 17 new schools scheduled to open in 2021.

Woodlea is currently home to 3,600 residents with this number only set to double by 2020 with the opening of the highly anticipated Woodlea Town Centre.

The public school will be a welcome addition to the estate, currently home to Bacchus Marsh Grammar Woodlea Campus, which is part of the largest independent school in Melbourne’s west.

Woodlea Project Director Matthew Dean said the state budget news was a huge win for the growing community.

“We’re thrilled to see Woodlea’s primary school as one of the 17 schools across the state to receive funding in the 2019/20 state budget and look forward to announcing this news to our growing community.

“We understand the importance of choice when it comes to choosing an education provider, therefore Woodlea offers residents a selection of quality private and public schools, right on their doorstep,” he said.

The new public school will be co-located with the Aintree Children’s and Community Hub. The hub will include four children’s room to provide kindergarten services, two Maternal Child Health consulting rooms, a library kiosk and community rooms and areas with ample space and a connecting kitchen for community use. The centre is expected to open in early 2020.

As well as Rockbank North Primary School and Bacchus Marsh Grammar, Woodlea’s master plan provides for an additional P-6 public primary school and a public secondary school in the yet to be developed northern portion of the site.

According to the 2019 HIA Population and Residential Building Hotspots Report, Rockbank’s population experienced a 59.4 per cent growth in 2017/18 and over $224 million in building approvals - a result of Victoria Investments and Properties (VIP) and Mirvac’s joint vision to deliver a community of unparalleled standards.
